| I would just like to say get well soon to Stuart Bayles. I hope you are on the mend and playing again ASAP.
I would also like to take this opportunity to say that despite some supporters of the home side saying I went in intentionally to hurt Stuart, I did not. I went for the ball and both players got the ball in a 50/50 tackle. I would never go in to intentionally hurt an opposition player, it was just an unfortunate accidental injury.
Get well soon.

| I agree with you mind Dilly. You's both went for the ball and both made contact with it, he was just the unfortunate one to come off worst.
If there are rumours going round that you intended to injury that player I would totally disagree. It was simply the impact of both players giving 110% to win the ball for their team.
It happens in football but I also agree that we, as the Glendenning Arms Football Club, should send out our deepest sypathy to the lad and hope he is on the mend very soon.

| Hope you don't mind me signing up and having my two cents.... Firstly, the game was abandoned after 63 minutes (not 75 as it suggests in the next forum down), had to mention that.
Secondly, nobody intentionally goes out to play football to hurt people and I completely agree that 'Dilly' must be feeling like shit because of this incident. I WILL say this however...... (Forgive me if I have the wrong name) Dilly had been at it all night, pushing his luck with stupid challenges and as for 50/50 ball, yes i agree that it was. But Dilly went in with both studs showing and completely high, hence Stuart Bayles now has a broken tib and fib. It was a 50/50 ball that had a challenge that was uneeded and uncalled for.
Thirdly, I appreciate your words of concern for Billy. I will be going in either tonight or tomorrow and will be sure to let his know that you lads are asking after him.
I'm sure we'll see you at our place again in the next few weeks.

| With regard to the abandonment of the game, I dont know the time exactly, just the referee did say there was over 70 minutes played.
Well shovel face, you are entitled to your opinion and although I dont want to get into a slanging match with you, I have to say I totally disagree with your views and opinion of the incident! I did catch your full back three times early on, twice the ref said play on so my challenges could hardly have been that bad and the last foul on the edge of my 18 yard box I was warned by the referee that this was my last warning. Once again I dont think my tackle was that bad, but the fact it was three fouls in quick succession, I was given the warning.
After that I dont think I give one foul away, but it was me who was fouled two or three times. I did catch one of your lads by total accident when he ran across my path in the second half and although I could understand his frustration at me, I can honestly say it was an accident. Regarding the tackle that injured Stuart, I did not go in two footed, studs showing and it was a genuine attempt for the ball!! Both me and Stuart made contact with the ball and each other, hence the whack on the shin I also took. It was the impact of the tackle that caused the injury not my tackle being dangerous. |

| I hope Stuart Bayles gets better from his injury ASAP. It is very unfortunate when players get injuries like he has suffered.
I played last nite for The Glen and would like to back up Dillys comments. Yes there were a few fouls taking place early on in the match from both teams but the referee was in complete control of the match. There was no tackles going in over the ball. Dilly from our team was involved in a few of them which is why I feel “shovelface” you have tried to make out the tackle which went in on Stuart Bayles was dangerous and was studs up. That was not the case at all as I was probably one of the closest players to the ball and they both went in for it, as it was 50/50 and they both connected with the ball. It is very unfortunate that Stuart ended up getting such a bad injury from it. I feel if it was any other of our players that had made the tackle you wouldn’t have had a problem with it. The referee saw it as I did and played on until he was made aware that both players had stayed down injured.
I can understand “shovelface” that you are upset a fellow team member has been injured and I would be the same if it were one of my team mates but I don’t feel it is rite you are blaming a player from our team when it was a tackle that both players went it for the ball and neither went in to hurt each other.

| Shovelface said: It was a 50/50 ball that had a challenge that was uneeded and uncalled for
You entitled to opinion but if a challenge/ball is 50-50, both sides r going in equally so how can u call dillys action 'uneeded' and 'uncalled' for? Both players went in 50-50 - EQUAL!

| Shovelface - I agree that the game was abandoned on 63 minutes but I think the confusion over the "75" part of peoples posts is what the ref meant. The ref told both teams that at the beginning of the game he was playing 40 minutes a half. Meaning 80 minutes total playing time. When your lad went down injured the ref spoke to your secretary and ours and said that there was 23 minutes of the 2nd half played, i.e. 63 minutes in total from a possible 80. He said that in his eyes of the league rules the result will stand at 0-0 because over 75% of the game has been played. I hope that clears the anomoly up. Since reading your post I think its wrong of you to single out our player (Dilly) and say the things that you did, and also hope that Dily is not going to targeted if there is a replay arranged because I understand you's are going to appeal against the refs decision. Not only will it spoil a perfectly good game between 2 evenly matched teams but if bad tackles start going in on purpose then there could be a worse injury that the one your lad got on Tuesday.
Is there any news on your lad???

| The ball was 50/50, but the way Dilly went in, I feel (my opinion) made it dangerous. Of course both teams are going to go for it, thats the passion of the game, and under no circumstances am I saying that Dilly went in to intentionally do that. I appreciate the concern of your lads, if you want to keep up to date with what is happening check out the steelers forum. See you's all in a couple of weeks with a bit of luck | |

| You are entitled to your opinion shovelface as everyone is and it's obvious we have got a different opinion. The nature of my tackle did not cause the injury to Stuart, it was caused by the impact of both of us going in as hard as we both did. The referee did not award a foul as mentioned in previous posts. This was because it was a legitimate tackle by both players. My conscience is clear with regard to my tackle and I know hand on heart my studs were not raised and the tackle was within the laws of the game. I feel for the lad a lot and yes do feel like shite because of what happened to him.
I think I am getting the reaction I am getting because of what went earlier in the game, which for me were just fouls, nothing else. There was no malice or nastyness in these fouls, they were just fouls, which is surely part and parcel of football, especially at this level.
Once again I hope Stuart gets well soon and I will be logging onto the Stellers forum to see his developments. |
